Unicorn Conservation and Restoration Studios is a small, owner-run business. We have a great love for what we do and take enormous pride in providing an ethical, comprehensive and tailor-made service to all our clients. We embrace similar professional ethics to that of a doctor, in that our basic doctrine is "do no harm". We use only conservation and museum approved materials, many of which have been specifically designed for the work we do and which will not damage or compromise the objects they are used on. Unlike some colleagues, we do not believe that an object has to be either very old or very valuable to merit restoration. On the contrary, a large amount of our work is on objects which have little or no intrinsic value, but a great deal of sentimental attachment. These are the objects which are particularly satisfying to work on.
Skills and Qualifications
University degree in Conservation and Restoration Four years in private practice, following graduation, but also several years pre-qualifying working independantly. Adult Teaching certificate plus a great many years craft experience.
Clients
Mostly private clients and collectors. Also work carried out for museums, churches and public bodies. Craft workshop clients come from all walks of life and levels of experience, from beginners to those who want to extend their skills further. Workshops are also taught in conjunction with a local museum\\\'s education programme.
