Jamie and the First Class Party Band

Back in December 2013, Jamie & The First Class were the band selected to perform at super cool new app launch for The Angry Birds Go at the Varsity Club in Oxford in December. Everyone knows Angry Birds, its the game which has been bought over 2 billion times so were honoured to be part of the new game launch!Jamie keeping quiet about the Angry Birds Go launchWe were spotted by the a couple of event organisers who, after watching us, booked us to entertain 550 fabulously dressed Oxford Brookes students for their Great Gatsby themed bash on the 20th of February 2014 at Oxford Town Hall. You can read a bit more about it on the blog hereOxford is amazing and attracts tourists from all over the world, you may have seen it on Inspector Morse. Oxford is home to Oxfam, a charity set up in 1942 so it was fitting that 10% of the profits from the Oxford Brookes Winter Ball were donated to them. The evening was a wonderful 1920’s themed event set in the elegant Victorian town hall; it was so breathtaking and whole event oozed class and grandeur.Guests started arriving at 730pm and they climbed the amazing staircase to the impressive main hall. The Oxford Brookes students were from all over the world boasting nearly 100 different nationalities in total. We went on stage about 830pm, starting with Rock Around The Clock, La Bamba and Hound Dog, the dancefloor was packed within seconds! There were some fantastic frocks, and some swanky suits; everyone had made such an effort to look amazing. Some of the audience had even learnt some 1920s dance moves!We ( my partner Harriet) had done a lot of research into Great Gatsby before the gig, I had read the book, we all watched the film, Stuart grew a brilliant moustache, I had a short beard (Mike was not allowed to shave for reasons unknown) and we all wore bow ties for the first time. Harriet wore a fab flapper dress with some pearls and a 1920s hair band, she looked absolutely stunning!Stuart Morrell made his vocal debut singing ‘Happy’ which went down great and Mike sang Dollar by Aloe Blacc for the first time. Harriet enjoyed her duet with Stuart for the rap in Billionaire which was a favourite with the crowd. It was a very satisfying moment for the band as we performed two one hour sets and held the crowd throughout. All of our rehearsing, touring , teamwork and experience paid off.The event was testament to the team effort within the band, thank you so much to Harriet, Mike, Ben, Stuart and Cameron (our roadie / camera man / bass dep).Thank you also to the hosts and staff for having us and all the Oxford Brookes students, you were the best!
