Using a single-sided cleaner across the face of the web will dramatically improve any image transfer, coating, adhesion, lamination or packaging reject issues.Cleaning both sides of the web will not only cut down on rejects caused by inclusions, it also ensures that no contamination from either side of the web is carried through in to the process. Expensive downtime wasted hunting down particles causing repeat faults and cleaning them is eliminated.

The Dust Removal System roller is smoothly applied to any flat surface, removing any loose, dry contamination. The roller is then cleaned on the Adhesive Pad which traps the contamination, leaving the roller clean for the next surface.

Arcalian look after sales in Europe for SDI of California,the major US manufacturer of Contact Cleaning systems.What is Contact Cleaning?Contact Cleaning, popularly known as "tacky roll cleaning" originated in the 1980s with the introduction to the market of the tacky roller and pad.The hand roller is gently passed over the flat surface to be cleaned. Any loose, dry particles (such as dust, hair, lint, clothing fibres etc) down to one micron in size are immediately collected by the roller leaving the surface completely clean.The hand roller is then passed over a special adhesive pad which in turn collects the contaminants, leaving the roller clean for its next job. The adhesive is specially formulated so that it does not transfer to the roller, and so there is no danger of the removed contaminants migrating back to the roller and subsequently to be in contact with a subsequent workpiece.Why is SDI technology better than that of their competitors?They have the widest range of polymer formulations (including silicone-free) to suit every application perfectly. Different substrates need different formulations, hardness and surface characteristics. Only SDI has the in-house capability to produce such a wide range of polymer recipes.Can the system be automated or incorporated into a production line?When the hand roller and pad had become accepted technology, naturally there were many larger users of the system for whom the cleaning was essential, but the volume of product made the job of cleaning very labour intensive.SDI have numerous automated solutions based around the same technology, tailor-made for PCB, screenprint, label printing, packaging and converting. Most machines contain a system of two or four polymer rollers (similar in concept to the hand roller above). When the substrate passes between the polymer rollers it is automatically cleaned on both sides. Special adhesive rolls are in constant contact with the polymer rollers, allowing the continuous transfer of the removed particulate.Periodically (typically once per shift), the operator pulls out the adhesive roll slides and removes a single layer of the reverse-wound adhesive. The cleaner is then ready for action once more.Why is SDI technology better than that of their competitors?Again, the wide range of polymers ensures that they give the correct balance of cleaning ability versus ability to process. SDI have the side-pull out of the polymer rollers patented, giving the easiest possible access for housekeeping and maintenance.

Arcalian has developed IRIS, an image comparator system which allows any image up to A3 size to be instantly compared with a "gold standard" image stored on a PC or network.Imagine you run a job for the first time in January, to the customer's supplied artwork, and they approve your first production run.Scanning an approved print as a "gold standard" into IRIS allows it to be called up again in July, when you receive a second order. The "gold standard" can then be compared to a scan from the new production run to see any differences.Both images are divided into grid sections and special "regions of interest" highlighted for special examination. No power, radiation or effort is required. DisCord Plus comes in reels of 11 metres (but stretches to 22 metres). ArcRods are a development of DisCord Plus. A semi-flexible carbon rod is sleeved in a similar polyester/steel material to the DisCord Plus. The rod gives even better static elimination for troublesome substrates, and its rigidity will allow the ArcRod to remain in place almost indefinitely.
